Violence from refusing to leave a bar, to battery on law enforcement officers, cops say

A bartender asked deputies to remove a woman who was "causing a disturbance with other customers," her arrest report said.

She walked them “to a rear patio and pointed to the defendant,” early last Sunday, May 19, in Florida, and they got a big job done in only about 45 minutes.

“I notified the defendant she was being trespassed,” one of the deputies wrote, adding, “It was immediately apparent the defendant was highly intoxicated based on her slurred speech, poor balance, and bloodshot eyes.”

Then, there was reportedly a bit of confusion.

“I asked the defendant if she would provide me with her license and she agreed,” the report continued, “and she initially provided me with a credit card.”

Authorities say that apparent confusion turned into violent resistance.

“The defendant was notified more than 15 times that she was being trespassed and needed to leave the establishment,” her arrest report said. “The defendant was notified more than five times she would be subject to arrest if she refused to leave.

“Due to the defendant’s level of intoxication, I notified her she needed to get a ride or walk, but continued to tell [her that] she had to exit the property.

“The defendant did state she understood multiple times. Regardless, the defendant repeatedly argued with me and refused to leave.“The defendant then disobeyed my lawful orders and reentered the inside bar area while saying ‘No. No. No.’ to me.

“The defendant then turned away from the front door and walked towards the bar.

“I grabbed the defendant's arm and instructed her to leave the business, while moving her towards the front door.“The defendant pulled away from me and refused to leave.”

Up next was that promised arrest and deputies wrote about their difficult and dangerous time.

“As I attempted to place handcuffs on the defendant,” the arrest report said, “she pulled her arms apart and spun her body towards me.

“I pushed the defendant towards a wall while she actively pushed back towards me, and I placed a handcuff on her right arm.

“I was unable to hang up the defendant’s left arm without the assistance of [another deputy] due to the defendant trying to thrash her arm around.“Due to the defendant’s act of resistance, my body worn camera was knocked from my chest and landed on the ground below us.”

She was finally detained but, “She continued to be non-compliant and kicked one of her legs back, intentionally striking my left shin with the bottom of her shoe.

“All of these actions caused a disturbance that was in plain view of the many patrons at the establishment. They were customers present on the back porch, and inside at the bar, while the defendant caused the public disturbance while being intoxicated.”

The trip to jail was reportedly no better.

“The defendant slipped her handcuffs to the front of her body and yelled profanities at me, the entire commute to jail,” the arrest report said. “Meanwhile, the defendant used both of her feet to kick the plexiglass behind my head for a large portion of the commute.“The defendant used such force that the plexiglass repeatedly struck my headrest, causing it to hit my head.”

And it still wasn’t over after they arrived.

“The defendant continued to yell and resist the correctional officers’ commands and had to be physically maneuvered to complete booking tasks,” they wrote. “While attempting to take the defendant's photograph, the defendant broke free from the four correctional officers and ultimately struck [a corporal] in the face with an open hand.”

Summer Caroline Yoder ended up “in hand and ankle shackles, and taken to secure confinement.”

She was charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, disorderly intoxication, trespassing, and resisting without violence.

Yoder, 46, was released after 46 hours in jail.
