KANSAS CITY. Mo (TND) — One of the men charged with murder following a shooting at a celebratory parade was released from the hospital.
It's been a week since shots were fired in downtown Kansas City at the Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration.
Since then, authorities have detained two juveniles and charged two adults with the murder of Lisa Lopez-Galvan.
Prosecutors announced Tuesday they charged both adults - Lyndell Mays, of Raytown, Missouri, and Dominic Miller, of Kansas City, Missouri - with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
A booking photo shows Mays was booked at the Jackson County Detention Center.
The murder suspect appears to have a facial injury and is wearing a hospital gown in the photo.
Charging documents revealed what prompted Mays, Miller and others to fire weapons in a crowd of people, including children.
Mays is accused of starting an argument with a separate group of individuals before pulling out a gun and firing it.
Documents stated the argument between strangers started when two groups grew agitated over the belief that people in the other group were staring at them.
Individuals from the group, including Miller responded, and pulled out weapons and fired back.
A bullet from Miller's gun is suspected to have been the one that killed Lopez-Galvan.
Miller is believed to still be hospitalized.
Documents stated Mays admitted he was the first to fire a weapon.
"Stupid, man. Just pulled a gun out and started shooting. I shouldn't have done that. Just being stupid," Mays told detectives at the hospital when asked why he started the fight.Prosecutors said Mays and Miller's arrest are the first. Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said others were involved in the shooting and they will be held accountable.
The juveniles who were arrested last week could be tried as adults.
It's estimated that 1 million people attended the celebration on February 14.
