The Somerset County man held on a Caribbean island after facing charges for having ammunition in his luggage was sentenced Friday.

Bryan Hagerich of Somerset faced up to 12 years in prison under Turks and Caicos gun laws.

He had been held there since February after he was caught with hunting ammunition in his luggage that he says he forgot was there.

Friday, a judge announced a 52-month suspended sentence for Hagerich along with his release.

Multiple reports indicate that Hagerich was ordered to pay a $6,700 fine.

Hagerich family friend Caroline Constantine says he will be flying home Friday night.

"He's missed so many milestones but looking back on the nightmare of the last 101 days we're just so fortunate that it's over and that we can put this behind us and that he can reunite with his family," Constantine said.

Hagerich tells 6News "I've dreamed of this moment for the last 101 days. It's surreal. I have a lot of family moments to catch up on."

U.S. Senator John Fetterman traveled to Turks and Caicos last weekend to meet with Hagerich and four other Americans being detained there.

Those other cases have not yet been resolved. Fetterman said he does expect similar sentences coming for the,.

"The TCI government has been very helpful and they were clear that we really want this to be resolved," Fetterman said. "They expedited Bryan's trial and now I think they're going to line everyone up and I think they're going to get this very similar kinds of sentences and everyone I think agrees that they want to send them right back to the United States."

This is Fetterman's response to talks about travel warnings to Turks and Caicos.

"Not a chance. No. I want to be very, very clear. I have no problem sending anybody I know including myself to visit there," Fetterman said.

He does advise travelers to make sure they are not using a bag they may have used for a hunting trip that might have bullets in it.
