LifePoint Health received $1.5 billion in federal relief money to offset the cost of the pandemic, according to business magazine Bloomberg.
Conemaugh Health System is owned by LifePoint.
According to Bloomberg, the for-profit system is owned by Apollo Global Management which is led by billionaire Leon Black.
The report says taxpayer money covered the cost of treating COVID-19 patients.
LifePoint and Apollo say they're entitled to the money because it lost revenue from a lack of elective procedures.
According to the report, Apollo says LifePoint is in such a strong market that it's planning to acquire less fortunate hospitals.
Conemaugh Health System released the following statement:
Conemaugh Health System has received funding from the CARES Act. HHS used a formulaic approach to determine how CARES funding would be distributed and to whom, ensuring that providers on the front lines of the pandemic would have access to vital resources. Conemaugh Health System has prioritized the use of financial aid to support our employees. For example, when we made the difficult decision to place a small percentage of our employees on temporary leaves of absence, we were able to offer partial pay, and the continuation of enrollment in healthcare benefits. We are pleased that all of our employees who were previously placed on temporary leaves of absence have returned to work, and we are proud that we have not terminated a single employee as a result of the financial impact of the pandemic.ncG1vNJzZmivmpawtcKNnKamZ56axLR7y6iamqRfp7Kxu9GtZKivnpq%2FbrvFZpqoppWirrazx2afnpmcqbVuv9isq56lXaG2p7HPqKCnrF2dsqK406Fkq52Tmra3scNmaG6aXZ67bq%2FOr6CdZaKauaqxxQ%3D%3D
