One person dead, others injured after vehicle accident in Pittsburgh

One person is dead and several others are injured after a vehicle struck two individuals on the shoulder of I-376 Westbound Monday morning, a press release states.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. at mile marker 78 and involved three vehicles.

The press release states that a vehicle became disabled in the left lane after the driver overturned the vehicle in an unrelated incident.

State police said that the original driver exited their vehicle and walked to the side of the roadway with the help of two Good Samaritans who had stopped their vehicle on the shoulder to render aid.

According to the press release, another vehicle traveling west began to negotiate a right curve just before the overturned vehicle.

State police said that the vehicle attempted to avoid the overturned vehicle but could not do so in time, and struck the overturned vehicle.

The press release states that the vehicle, after striking the overturned vehicle, hit the guardrail before striking the driver of the overturned vehicle and one of the Good Samaritans and then another vehicle.

According to state police, the driver of the overturned vehicle was transported to UPMC Mercy where they were pronounced deceased.

The press release states that all occupants of the other vehicles were transported to other local hospitals for their injuries.

The press release also states that the Pennsylvania State Police and the Forensic Services Unit and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialists are assisting in the investigation.
