SEATTLE (WKRC) - A mother was arrested after allegedly shaking her two-year-old child "like a ragdoll" on a Delta Air Lines flight.
According to USA Today, a Sacramento woman was ordered to be detained last Wednesday after she was allegedly seen abusing her 2-year-old on Delta Flight 1922 from Mexico to Seattle.
The United States Attorney's Office, Western District of Washington reported that 33-year-old Breanna R. Mistler was taken into custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after multiple witnesses from the flight reported seeing her abuse a child.
According to a criminal complaint, the child woke Mistler up, to which she allegedly responded by kicking the toddler. Later in the flight, a witness reported that Mistler allegedly shook the two-year-old "like a ragdoll."
Per USA Today, when confronted by other passengers, Mistler told the witnesses to "mind their own business." Following Mistler's arrest at the airport, officers with Customs and Border Protection found several bruises on the toddler. According to the outlet, when questioned about the injuries, Mistler told officers they were caused by a dog a week earlier.
The Port of Seattle Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have taken over the case, per the complaint, which added that Child Protective Services was involved with placing the child with a relative.
Per USA Today, citing a criminal complaint from 2019, Mistler was arrested for allegedly inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and was recently charged with the following in December of 2023:
- Burglary
- Conspiracy to commit a crime
- Child abuse with the possibility of injury or death
- Resisting a public peace officer
A court hearing has been scheduled for May 16.
