CLEARFIELD CO., Pa (WJAC) – The Clearfield County Commission has a new member, and a new Chairman.
The three commissioners were sworn in Tuesday morning at the courthouse. New to the board, Republican Timothy Winters who beat out sitting member Mary Tatum in the primary to then win November’s general election.
After being sworn in, the sitting Commission Chairman, Republican John Sobel, nominated the only Democrat on the board, Dave Glass to be the next chair. Sobel told those gathered for their meeting that Glass requested to serve as Chair for one year of his term.
It’s common practice that a member of the majority party be elected chair of a commission.
“I don’t see a problem with setting tradition aside for one year and allowing a member of the minority party to serve,” Sobel said.
The three commissioners then voted unanimously to elect Glass to the chairman position.
“It’s a position without any special authority, it’s an administrative position,” Sobel explained. “I don’t think it’s anything we need to get upset with along party lines.”
